We are appalled and saddened by the Supreme Court's recent decision to uphold the current administration's ban on travel from several predominantly Muslim countries. This policy directly conflicts with our values.
Health In Harmony is an international organization that engages community-led solutions for planetary health. To do this work, we must cultivate understanding, bring together disparate points of view, listen to, and respect each other. Our health care and rain forest conservation work in Indonesia - the world's largest majority-Muslim country - depends on it.
Our partner in Borneo, Alam Sehat Lestari (ASRI), is a leader in planetary health. Their work to protect rain forests, biodiversity, and human wellbeing is cutting edge. We are proud to work for a healthy planet for all people with our dedicated and brilliant ASRI colleagues, all of whom come from Indonesia. Our field courses, professional exchanges, and supporter trips to ASRI are designed to humanize and connect people across cultures and religions.
The recently upheld travel ban and other US government policies have been a source of fear and anguish for people who care about the planet - like we do - and for some of the world's most marginalized communities - like those we work with.
Through this challenging time, Health In Harmony will continue to uphold the values of respect, compassion, and Radical Listening. We will collaborate with our ASRI colleagues and keep carrying forward the work of community-led solutions for human and environmental health.
