Vaccinations starting for rainforest communities in the Manombo Special Reserve!

The HIH Madagascar team has received 3,700 vaccines from the local health authorities to support vaccination programs and distribute to community members surrounding the Manombo forest.

This is an exciting opportunity as COVAX has released just 250,000 vaccines to Madagascar, a nation of almost 27 million people.

Last weekend, the HIH medical team visited all 31 villages we partner with who live in and around the Manombo forest and answered questions from individuals surrounding the vaccination process, addressed vaccine hesitancy, and encouraged community members to get vaccinated.

Food incentives were also offered to community members who are currently experiencing food insecurity amidst a lean season and delayed rains.

During the four days of vaccination mobile clinics last week, the team was able to vaccinate 269 community members!
