Muhamad Rusda Yakin “Rusda”

Muhamad Rusda Yakin is the Conservation Program Manager of Alam Sehat Lestari (ASRI) based in West Kalimantan, Indonesia. He leads a team working on reforestation, forest protection and alternative livelihood programs.

Rusda holds a B.Sc with a major in Biology from State Islamic University of Jakarta, where his research focused on the nesting behavior of orangutans. He began his career in conservation by working for a NGO that focuses on wild orangutan research programs. Some time later, he joined an NGO working on orangutan reintroduction where his main task was to coordinate the team to conduct the orangutan release to the natural habitat and oversee orangutan adaptation process through post-release monitoring. Rusda has also worked for the Sumatran rhino rescue project in Kalimantan where he worked with the rhino survey and translocation team as well as the communities and related stakeholders.

Rusda has an interest in working on wildlife conservation, forest conservation and support of forest-linked communities.
