Health In Harmony (HIH) and Indonesian affiliate Alam Sehat Lestari (ASRI) have been working with  Indigenous peoples and local communities (IPs & LCs) in Indonesian Borneo to improve healthcare, reverse illegal logging, and reduce deforestation since 2002.

In an exciting strategic partnership launched with the Indonesian Ministry of Health (MoH) in 2023, HIH and ASRI will work alongside MoH to scale the HIH and ASRI model of investment in community-designed solutions across Indonesia.

Expansion sites were identified with the MoH based on rankings of forest quality (carbon sequestered, forest integrity, and biodiversity), human health impacts (health outcomes, risk of zoonotic spillover, and anthropogenic threats), and the sites’ ease of access.

In early 2024, ASRI will begin Radical Listening with communities in Tambrauw, West Papua. HIH and ASRI believe direct investment in community health is crucial in helping to protect Indonesia's tropical forest and to address primary healthcare. HIH and ASRI’s shared goal with the MoH is to increase impact in the region, while creating a blueprint for a successful multidisciplinary Planetary Health partnership.
