Juliansah

Laman Satong, Indonesia

“In the beginning, I had to log illegally. Now, I’m dedicating myself to protecting the forest…I realize that what I do now is not only for me; it is for our children, grandchildren, and also for the world.”

Forest Guardian Juliansah (Jul) lives and works in Laman Satong, Indonesia. As a former logger, he now dedicates himself to protecting the forest. Jul is a respected member of the Forest Guardians team at Alam Sehat Lestari (ASRI), working primarily in the Laman Satong nursery and surrounding forest, planting and protecting seedlings that will be used to reforest local regions of the rainforest. Jul envisions a healthy planet for future generations and recognizes that what he does every day is not only for him, his family, and his community, but for the world.

Community Case Study

Reforestation is one of the most important programs run by ASRI, with staff and community members managing operations for several nurseries in the area, containing tens of thousands of seedlings growing under their watchful eyes, until the seedlings are ready to be planted in the forest. These seedlings will one day grow into trees capable of supporting Indonesia’s rich biodiversity of plants and animal species that depend on their survival. It all starts here.
